Triton Celebrates 25 Years of SuccessLong Beach, Mississippi – February 13, 2006 – Global ATM manufacturer, Triton, celebrates a quarter-century of business this year. According to Triton President Brian Kett, this year will be as much about looking forward as reflecting on our past accomplishments. An anniversary celebration with employee recognition awards will be held February 13, 2006.
Even though aspects of the company’s business have changed since 1981, others have remained constant. Topping the list is the consistent development of common-sense technology solutions, a dedication to a corporate culture started by its founders, and the practice of good business.
“I credit Ernest Burdette with setting the corporate tone and standards for the way we do business today,” said Kett. “At Triton, attention to quality is a part of every facet of our business, from our products to our employees and business partners, all of which bring value to our business.”
On February 6, 1981, founders Ernest Burdette, Frank Wilem and Robert Sandoz, began operating the Triton business full-time. Today, with over 145,000 ATMs around the globe, Triton is the dominant supplier of retail ATMs in the US and the fourth largest supplier of ATMs worldwide.
“Looking back, it’s been fantastic,” said Burdette. “I couldn’t have imagined in 1981 that Triton would have such a significant impact on a global industry. So certainly looking ahead, the possibilities are endless, especially with our leadership now and the backing of our parent company.”
While Burdette said he recalls many milestones over the past 25 years, he called the acquisition by the Dover Corporation in 2000, the biggest milestone for the company. “It was important to find the right company to partner with Triton, and it turned out well,” Burdette said.
Additionally, Burdette pointed to Triton’s perseverance in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. He credited a team of dedicated employees and business partners for the quick re-opening just two weeks after the storm. “It speaks volumes about the resilience of our employees and strong relationship we have with our business partners,” said Burdette.
Triton Innovation
In the early years, Triton developed the world’s first battery operated, portable device for the banking industry to train customers on using the ATM. Triton’s development of a revolutionary small, convenient and affordable ATM made ATMs a practical possibility for non-bank locations. Over the years, Triton has continued to improve on its own innovation with the development of a full line of retail and financial ATMs. Currently, the 9100 Series is Triton’s best selling ATM and represents nearly half of its U.S. ATM sales. The 9100 is considered the best low-cost ATM in the industry. Triton’s two newest product offerings include the 8100 model, a new low-cost ATM for lower-volume retail locations and the FT7000 Series, Triton’s first full-function, banking ATM.
Looking Ahead
Triton has evolved into global business that includes much more than just ATMs. Software solution packages, including Triton Connect and Prism, complement its ATM offering. Additional aspects of the business include service, parts and even an ATM processing arm, Calypso Canada. The Canadian market was Triton’s first big market outside the U.S. Currently, Triton has a presence in over 23 countries and in recent years has seen significant market share growth in Europe, Asia, South Africa and Australia.
Jeff Barrow, Triton’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, located in Melbourne, Australia, commented, “For more than 10 years we have supplied the retail market and continue to build on that success around the globe. We are the dominant supplier of retail ATMs essentially because we offer the right technology at the right price.”
Triton plans to build on its successes in the retail industry by continuing to provide high-quality, cost-effective ATM solutions. Additionally, as financial institutions seek options to make their ATMs more profitable, Triton plans to offer a banking solution similar to the one that has helped them set the standard in the retail market.
